હત્યા કે આત્મહત્યા ? પોલીસે ગણતરીના કલાકોમાં ભેદ કેવી રીતે ઉકેલ્યો ?

નાના અમથા ખોબા જેવડા  ગામના એક છેડે આવેલા નાના મકાનમાં સુમિત્રાબેન પોતાની ૧૭ વર્ષની દીકરી કાવ્યા સાથે રહેતાં હતાં. સુમિત્રાબેનના પતિના અવસાન બાદ તેમણે ખૂબ જ મુશ્કેલીઓ વેઠીને કાવ્યાને મોટી કરી હતી. કાવ્યા દેખાવમાં જેટલી શાંત અને ભોળી લાગતી, અંદરથી તે એટલી જ જિદ્દી અને લાગણીશીલ હતી. ગામમાં જ રહેતા અજય નામના એક રખડું યુવક સાથે કાવ્યાને આંખ મળી ગઈ હતી. સમય જતાં આ સામાન્ય ઓળખાણ ગાઢ પ્રેમમાં બદલાઈ ગઈ. બંને કલાકો સુધી છૂપી રીતે મળતાં અને સાથે જીવવા-મરવાના વચનો આપતાં. સુમિત્રાબેન દીકરીની આંખો પામી ગયાં. યુવાનીના ઉંબરે ઉભેલી દીકરીની ચિંતા કોરી ખાવા લાગી. દીકરીનું બદલાયેલું વર્તન જોઈ તેમણે મનમાં ગાંઠ વાળી દીધી કે દીકરી ઉંમર લાયક થાય એટલે સારું ઘર શોધી તરત તેના હાથ પીળા કરી દેવા.  

સુમિત્રાબેને દીકરી  કાવ્યાનું સગપણ પાસેના જ  ગામના એક સુખી અને પ્રતિષ્ઠિત પરિવારના યુવક સાથે નક્કી કરી દીધું. આ સમાચાર જાણતાં જ કાવ્યાનો આક્રોશ જાણે આસમાને ચડી ગયો. તેણે તેની માતાને સ્પષ્ટ શબ્દોમાં જણાવી દીધું કે આ સગપણ માટે તે બિલકુલ તૈયાર નથી. સુમિત્રાબેને દીકરીને સમજાવતાં કહ્યું : "મેં તારા માટે જે છોકરો પસંદ કર્યો છે, તે જ તને સુખી રાખશે. મેં જે કર્યું છે એ તારા ભલા માટે જ કર્યું છે," પણ કોઈ કાળે કાવ્યા તેની માતાની વાત માનવા તૈયાર ન થઇ તે ન જ થઈ. આ વાતથી સુમિત્રાબેન અત્યંત દુખી થયાં.

આ વાતને થોડા દિવસો વીત્યા હશે ત્યાં ગામથી વીસેક કિલોમીટર દૂર એક ઘટના બની. વગડામાં કામ કરતા એક વ્યક્તિને તળાવમાં કાંઈક તરતું દેખાયું. એ જોઈ એ વ્યક્તિ મનમાં ફાળ પડી. નજીક જઈ જોયું તો તળાવના પાણી પર એક સ્ત્રીની લાશ તરી રહી હતી. ડરી ગયેલી વ્યક્તિ હાંફતાં હાંફતાં  ગામમાં આવી ગ્રામજનોને વાત કરી. ગ્રામજનો પણ તળાવ પાસે દોડી આવ્યા. ગ્રામજનોએ તરત નજીકના પોલીસ સ્ટેશને જાણ કરી. આખા વિસ્તારમાં સનસનાટી મચી ગઈ. તાબડતોબ પોલીસ ઘટના સ્થળે દોડી આવી. લાશને બહાર કાઢવામાં આવી. આ ગામ માટે મહિલાનો ચહેરો અપરિચિત હતો. કોઈ ઓળખ કાર્ડ નહોતું, પરંતુ તેના ઘરેણાં અને કપડાં પરથી તે કોઈ સારા ઘરની સ્ત્રી હોય તેવું લાગતું હતું. પોલીસે આસપાસના તમામ જિલ્લા અને પોલીસ સ્ટેશનોમાં મહિલાના ફોટોગ્રાફ્સ મોકલી આપ્યા.  ગણતરીના કલાકોમાં  જ ખબર પડી કે આ લાશ બીજા કોઈની નહિ, પરંતુ  સુમિત્રાબેનની છે.

        પોલીસે સુમિત્રાબેનની દીકરીને ખબર આપી.  સમાચાર જાણતાં જ કાવ્યા હાંફળી-ફાંફળી  દોડતી પોલીસ સ્ટેશન પહોંચી. લાંબા સમય સુધી તે માતાના મૃતદેહને વળગી  ચોધાર આંસુઓએ  રડતી રહી. અને રડતાં રડતાં પોલીસને એટલું જ જણાવી શકી કે  "મારી માતા રાત્રે કોઈને કહ્યા વગર ઘરેથી નીકળી ગઈ હતી. કદાચ તેઓ માનસિક તણાવમાં હતાં. પરંતુ તે આવી રીતે  આત્મહત્યા કરી લેશે એવી કલ્પના નોહતી." પોલીસે કાવ્યાને શાંત કરી. અને આગળની કાર્યવાહી હાથ ધરી. લાશને પોસ્ટમોર્ટમ માટે મોકલી આપી.

બે દિવસ પછી લેબોરેટરીમાંથી પોસ્ટમોર્ટમ રિપોર્ટ આવ્યો, એ ચોંકાવનારો હતો.  મૃતકનાં  ફેફસામાં તળાવનું પાણી નહોતું ગયું, એટલે કે તેને જીવતી પાણીમાં ફેંકવામાં આવી નહોતી. તેના ગળાના હાડકામાં ફ્રેક્ચર હતું અને ગળા પર કોઈ પાતળી દોરી કે વાયરથી ટૂંપો આપવાના સ્પષ્ટ નિશાન હતા. આ બધી કડીઓ સ્પષ્ટ ઈશારો કરતી હતી કે  આ આત્મહત્યા નહોતી, આ એક અત્યંત ક્રૂર અને યોજના  પૂર્વક કરવામાં આવેલી હત્યા (Murder) હતી! પોલીસને પહેલેથી થોડી શંકા તો હતી જ કે કોઈ સ્ત્રી આત્મહત્યા કરવા માટે રાત્રિના સમયે પોતાના ગામથી વીસેક કિલોમીટર દૂર પગપાળા કે કોઈ સાધન વગર કેવી રીતે જાય? PM રીપોર્ટે પોલીસની શંકાને સત્યમાં પરિવર્તિત કરી દીધી.

       પોલીસ માટે પણ હવે આ કેસ પડકારરૂપ બની ગયો હતો. પોલીસે છૂપી રીતે તપાસ શરૂ કરી. ટેકનીકલ અને હ્યુમન રિસોર્સ કામે લગાડ્યા. તેમણે સૌથી પહેલાં સુમિત્રાબેનનો મોબાઈલ કોલ ડિટેઈલ રેકોર્ડ (CDR) કઢાવ્યો. તપાસમાં બહાર આવ્યું કે મૃત્યુની રાત્રે સુમિત્રાબેન પર રમેશભાઈના નંબરેથી ફોન આવ્યો હતો.

      પોલીસે તપાસ કરતા વધુ એક વિગત બહાર આવી. એક સમયે રમેશભાઈ અને સુમિત્રાબેન વચ્ચે મૈત્રીના સંબધો હતા. પરંતુ કેટલાક સમયથી કોઈ અગમ્ય કારણોસર બંને વચ્ચેના સંબધમાં તિરાડ પડી ચુકી હતી.   પોલીસે મોડું કર્યા વગર સૌપ્રથમ રમેશભાઈની અટકાયત કરી. પોલીસના કડક વલણ અને આકરી પુછપરછ  રમેશ લાંબો સમય ટકી શક્યો નહીં. તે ભાંગી પડ્યો અને તેણે પોપટની જેમ આખી હકીકત ઓકી દીધી: "સાહેબ, આમાં મારો કાંઈ વાંક નથી. આ  બધું મેં અજય અને તેના મિત્રો  રોહિત અને વિજયને કહેવાથી જ કર્યું છે!"  કેસ વધુ ગૂંચવાતો જતો હતો. બનાવ બન્યાની રાત્રે અજય અને તેના મિત્રોના મોબાઈલ ટાવર લોકેશન તળાવ તરફ જતા રોડ પર બતાવી રહ્યા હતા. પોલીસે તરત જ એક સાથે દરોડા પાડીને અજય, રોહિત અને વિજયને દબોચી લીધા.

પોલીસે કડક હાથે પૂછપરછ કરતાં અજયે જે ઘટસ્ફોટ કર્યો એ સાંભળીને સૌના પગ નીચેથી જાણે જમીન જ સરકી ગઈ. અજયે પોલીસને કહ્યું કે “સુમિત્રાબેનની દીકરી મને ચાહતી હતી. પરંતુ સુમિત્રાબેનને અમારો સંબધ મંજૂર નહતો. એટલે તેમણે  કાવ્યાનું સગપણ બીજે નક્કી કરી દીધું હતું. કાવ્યા આ સગપણથી ખૂબ નારાજ હતી. માતાના આ દબાણે કાવ્યાની અંદરના પ્રેમને એક હિંસક આક્રોશમાં બદલી નાખ્યો. તેને લાગ્યું કે જો તેની માતા આ દુનિયામાં નહીં રહે, તો જ તે અજય સાથે મુક્તપણે જીવી શકશે.

      કાવ્યાએ એક દિવસ અજયને એકાંતમાં બોલાવ્યો અને રડતાં રડતાં કહ્યું, "મારી માં આપણને ક્યારેય એક થવા નહીં દે. જો તું મને સાચો પ્રેમ કરતો હોય, તો તારે આ આડખીલીને હંમેશા માટે રસ્તામાંથી હટાવવી પડશે." અજય પહેલાં તો આ સાંભળીને હેબતાઈ ગયો, પણ કાવ્યાને ગુમાવવાના ડરના કારણે તે પણ આ પાપના કીચડમાં ઉતરવા તૈયાર થઈ ગયો. પરંતુ સુમિત્રાબેનને રસ્તામાંથી હટાવવા એટલા સરળ નહોતા. અજયે આ પ્લાનને અંજામ આપવા માટે તેના બે મિત્રો – રોહિત અને વિજયને પૈસા અને લાલચ આપીને સાથે લીધા.

આ કાવતરામાં સૌથી ચોંકાવનારો વળાંક ત્યારે આવ્યો જ્યારે અજયે સુમિત્રાબેનના જ એક જૂના પરિચિત અને મિત્ર રમેશભાઈનો સંપર્ક કર્યો. રમેશભાઈ કોઈ કારણસર સુમિત્રાબેનથી નારાજ હતા અને તેમની અંગત વાતો જાણતા હતા. અજયે રમેશને પણ પોતાની તરફ કરી લીધો. પાંચ જણાની આ ટોળકીએ ભેગા મળીને એક એવો માસ્ટર પ્લાન બનાવ્યો.

બનાવની એ કાળી રાતે આખું ગામ ભરનિદ્રામાં હતું. કાવ્યા પોતાના ઘરમાં જાગતી આંખે નજર રાખીને બેઠી હતી. યોજના મુજબ, રમેશભાઈએ રાત્રે ૧૧ વાગ્યે સુમિત્રાબેનને ફોન કર્યો. તેમણે કોઈ જરૂરી અને ગુપ્ત વાત કરવાના બહાને સુમિત્રાબેનને ગામના છેડે આવેલા અવાવરુ ખેતરમાં મળવા બોલાવ્યા. સુમિત્રાબેન કોઈપણ જાતના સંશય વગર, કાવ્યાને ઘરમાં સૂતેલી મૂકીને ખેતર તરફ નીકળી પડ્યા.

     ખેતરમાં ઘાટી બાજરીના પાક વચ્ચે અજય, રોહિત અને વિજય અંધારામાં છુપાઈને શિકારની રાહ જોઈ રહ્યા હતા. જેવી જ સુમિત્રાબેન ત્યાં પહોંચ્યા અને રમેશ સાથે વાત કરવા લાગ્યા, કે તરત જ પાછળથી અજય અને તેના મિત્રોએ તેમના પર હુમલો કરી દીધો. સુમિત્રાબેન કઈ સમજે કે બૂમ પાડે તે પહેલાં જ તેમનું મોં દબાવી દેવામાં આવ્યું.

      ક્રૂરતાની તમામ હદો પાર થઈ ગઈ. પકડાઈ ન જવાય તે માટે કોઈ હથિયાર વાપરવાને બદલે,  વિજયે પોતાના પગમાંથી બૂટની દોરી કાઢી. અજય અને રોહિતે સુમિત્રાબેનના હાથ-પગ પકડી રાખ્યા અને રમેશે આસપાસ નજર રાખી. વિજયે બૂટની દોરી સુમિત્રાબેનના ગળાની ફરતે વીંટીને પૂરી તાકાતથી ખેંચી લીધી. થોડી જ મિનિટોની તડપ બાદ સુમિત્રાબેનનો શ્વાસ કાયમ માટે રૂંધાઈ ગયો. હત્યા તો થઈ ગઈ, પણ હવે લાશને છુપાવવી એ મોટો પડકાર હતો. અજય ખૂબ જ શાતિર હતો. તે આ હત્યાને અકસ્માતનું રૂપ આપવા માંગતો હતો જેથી કોઈને શંકા ન જાય.

તેઓએ સુમિત્રાબેનના મૃતદેહને કપડામાં લપેટીને અજયની મોટરસાયકલ વચ્ચે ગોઠવ્યો. રાતના ઘનઘોર અંધારામાં આશરે વીસેક કિલોમીટર દૂર આવેલા તળાવમાં ભારે પથ્થર બાંધીને સુમિત્રાબેનના મૃતદેહને ઊંડા પાણીમાં ફેંકી દીધો, જેથી લાશ ક્યારેય ઉપર ન આવે. પુરાવાનો નાશ કરીને તમામ નરાધમો પોતપોતાના ઘરે પરત ફરી ગયા. કાવ્યાને પણ ફોન પર મેસેજ મળી ગયો – "કામ પૂરું થઈ ગયું છે." મેસેજ વાંચી કાવ્યા નિરાંતે સૂઈ ગઈ.

એક દીકરી પોતાની માતાની હત્યાનું કાવતરું કેવી રીતે ઘડી શકે ? બનાવની હકીકત સાંભળી પોલીસ પણ આશ્ચર્યમાં ઘરકાવ થઈ ગઈ. પોલીસ જ્યારે કાવ્યાને પકડવા તેના ઘરે પહોંચી, ત્યારે ગામલોકો આશ્ચર્યચકિત થઈ ગયા. જે દીકરી પોતાની માતાના મોત પર મગરના આંસુ વહાવી રહી હતી, તે જ આ જઘન્ય અપરાધની માસ્ટરમાઇન્ડ નીકળી!

રોમની ગલીઓમાં એક સમયે છૂટક ચીજો વેચતી, આયાની નોકરી કરતી અને બારમાં કામ કરતી એક છોકરીની ઇટાલીનાં પ્રધાનમંત્રી સુધીની રોચક સફર ! વાત જ્યોર્જિયા મેલોનીની !

 

વર્ષ ૧૯૭૬ ની વાત છે. ઇટાલીના ઐતિહાસિક રોમ શહેરની અન્ના પેરાટોર નામની એક ગર્ભસ્થ મહિલા ઘરના તનાવપૂર્ણ વાતાવરણ અને આર્થિક સંકડામણથી ત્રસ્ત  થઇ, ગર્ભપાતના નિશ્ચય સાથે હોસ્પિટલ માટે પગ ઉપાડે છે. રસ્તામાં કોફી શોપ પર કોફી માટે રોકાય છે. કોફી પીતાં-પીતાં એનું મન બદલાય છે અને ગર્ભપાતનો વિચાર માંડી વાળી ઘરે પરત ફરે છે.  અને તારીખ  15 જાન્યુઆરી 1977 ના રોજ એક બાળકીને જન્મ આપે છે. આ બાળકીનું નામ રાખવામાં આવ્યું જ્યોર્જિયા મેલોની !

જ્યોર્જિયા મેલોની એટલે બીજું કોઈ નહિ, પરંતુ ઈટાલીના પ્રથમ મહિલા પ્રધાનમંત્રી છે ! જ્યોર્જિયા મેલોની ઈટાલીના પ્રથમ મહિલા પ્રધાનમંત્રી બનવાનું ગૌરવ મેળવનાર મેલોનીની જીવનયાત્રા કોઈ ફિલ્મી વાર્તાથી કમ નથી. જ્યોર્જિયા મેલોનીનો જન્મ રોમના એક મધ્યમવર્ગીય પરિવારમાં થયો હતો. તેમનાં માતા અન્ના પેરાટોર લેખિકા  હતાં. જયારે પિતા ફ્રાન્સેસ્કો મેલોની એકાઉન્ટન્ટ  હતા.  મેલોની જયારે માત્ર એક વર્ષનાં હતાં તેમના પિતા ફ્રાન્સેસ્કોએ પરિવારનો સાથ છોડી દીધો. પિતાએ આખો પરિવાર છોડીને સ્પેનના કેનેરી આઇલેન્ડ્સમાં સ્થાયી થવાનો નિર્ણય કર્યો. અને  બીજાં લગ્ન કરી લીધાં.

પિતા ગયા પછી, તેમની માતા અન્ના પરાટોએ એકલા હાથે જ્યોર્જિયા અને તેમની બહેન એરિયાનાનો ઉછેર કર્યો. માતાએ આર્થિક તંગી વચ્ચે દીકરીઓને ભણાવવા માટે રાત-દિવસ એક કર્યા. જ્યોર્જિયા જયારે ત્રણ વર્ષનાં હતાં ત્યારે તેમનું ઘર આગ લાગવાથી ખાક થઇ ગયું. તેમના પરિવારે પોતાનું ઘર બદલીને રોમના શ્રમિક વર્ગના વિસ્તાર 'ગારબાટેલા'  માં રહેવા જવું પડ્યું. આ એ સમય હતો જ્યારે જ્યોર્જિયાએ ગરીબીને ખૂબ નજીકથી જોઈ. આ દિવસોએ જ્યોર્જિયાને જમીન સાથે જોડી રાખી. ગારબાટેલાની એ ધૂળભરી ગલીઓએ તેમને શીખવ્યું કે સામાન્ય લોકોની પીડા શું હોય છે. આ જ પીડા આગળ જતાં તેમની રાજકીય વિચારધારાનો પાયો બની.

આ કડવા અનુભવોએ જ્યોર્જિયાના હૃદયમાં એક એવો સંકલ્પ દૃઢ બન્યો  કે તેઓ જીવનમાં ક્યારેય હાર નહીં માને. એક મુલાકાતમાં તેમણે રડતી આંખે સ્વીકાર્યું હતું કે, પિતાના આ વ્યવહારે તેમને બાળપણમાં જ સમય કરતાં વહેલા મોટા અને મજબૂત બનવા મજબૂર કરી દીધાં હતાં. પોતાની માતાને આર્થિક મદદ કરવા અને પોતાનો અભ્યાસ ચાલુ રાખવા માટે કિશોરાવસ્થામાં જ તેમણે અનેક નાના-મોટા કામો શરૂ કર્યા. તેમણે રોમના પ્રખ્યાત નાઇટક્લબમાં બારટેન્ડર ગર્લ  તરીકે કામ કર્યું. બાળકોને સાચવવાની આયા  તરીકે નોકરી કરી. બજારોમાં નાની મોટી ચીજ વસ્તુઓ  વેચવામાં પણ ક્યારેય નાનમ ન અનુભવી.

જ્યારે કોઈ વ્યક્તિનું બાળપણ સંઘર્ષમાં વીતે છે, ત્યારે તેનામાં કાં તો નિરાશા જન્મે છે કાં તો તેના મનમાં  ક્રાંતિનાં બીજ રોપાય છે.  જ્યોર્જિયાના કિસ્સામાં તેમનો સંઘર્ષ, તેમની ગરીબી, તેમના પડકારો એ તેના હૃદયમાં  ક્રાંતિબીજનું વાવેતર કર્યું. અને  માત્ર ૧૫ વર્ષની નાની ઉંમરે, ૧૯૯૨ માં, તેમણે 'મોવિમેન્ટો સોશિયાલે ઇટાલિયાનો' (MSI) ના યુવા મોરચા 'ફ્રન્ટે ડેલા ગિઓવેન્ટુ' માં જોડાવાનો નિર્ણય કર્યો. આ એક દક્ષિણપંથી (Right-wing) સંગઠન હતું.

એક યુવાન છોકરી માટે પુરુષ પ્રધાન રાજકારણમાં સ્થાન બનાવવું અત્યંત કઠિન હતું. પરંતુ જ્યોર્જિયા પાસે શબ્દોનું  અમોઘ શસ્ત્ર હતું. તેમની પ્રભાવી વક્તૃત્ત્વ શૈલી ભલભલા  વિરોધીઓને શાંત કરી દેતી. તેમની વક્તૃત્વ શૈલી એટલી પ્રભાવશાળી અને આક્રમક હતી કે લોકો તેમને સાંભળવા મંત્રમુગ્ધ થઈ જતા. તેઓ પોતાના ભાષણોમાં દેશભક્તિ, પારિવારિક મૂલ્યો અને સંસ્કૃતિની રક્ષાની વાત કરતાં. જોતજોતામાં  તેઓ યુવાનોના અવાજ બનીને ઉભરી આવ્યાં.

        ઇટાલીના રાજકીય ગલીયારોમાં પ્રતિભાવાન જ્યોર્જિયાનો સિતારો દિન પ્રતિદિન વધુને વધુ ચમકતો ગયો. વર્ષ ૨૦૦૬ માં, માત્ર ૨૯ વર્ષની ઉંમરે જ્યોર્જિયા મેલોની ઇટાલીની સંસદના નીચલા ગૃહ (Chamber of Deputies) ના સભ્ય તરીકે ચૂંટાયા. તેમની પ્રતિભા જોઈને ૨૦૦૮ માં તત્કાલીન પ્રધાનમંત્રી સિલ્વિયો બર્લુસ્કોનીએ તેમને દેશના મંત્રી બનાવ્યા. ૩૧ વર્ષની ઉંમરે મંત્રી બનીને તેમણે ઇટાલીના ઇતિહાસમાં સૌથી નાની વયના મંત્રી બનવાનો રેકોર્ડ બનાવ્યો. પરંતુ જ્યોર્જિયા એટલાથી અટકવાનાં  નહોતાં. ૨૦૧૨ માં તેમણે પોતાની નવી રાજકીય પાર્ટી 'બ્રધર્સ ઓફ ઇટાલી'  ની સ્થાપના કરી. આ પાર્ટીની શરૂઆત ખૂબ નાની હતી, પરંતુ જ્યોર્જિયાના અથાક પરિશ્રમને કારણે આ પાર્ટીએ ઇટાલીના લોકોના દિલમાં જગ્યા બનાવી લીધી.

       આ દરમિયાન જ્યોર્જિયા મેલોની પ્રખ્યાત ઇટાલિયન પત્રકાર એન્ડ્રીયા ગિઆમ્બ્રુનોના સંપર્કમાં આવ્યાં. બન્ને વચ્ચે ઘનિષ્ઠ આત્મીય  સંબધો બંધાયા. બંને  લાંબા સમય સુધી લિવ-ઈન રિલેશનશિપમાં રહ્યા. પરંતુ બંનેએ ક્યારેય લગ્ન કર્યા નહોતા. આ તમામ રાજકીય દોડધામ વચ્ચે જ્યોર્જિયાના જીવનમાં એક સુંદર વળાંક આવ્યો. તેમણે વર્ષ ૨૦૧૬માં  પુત્રી 'જિનેવરા' ને જન્મ આપ્યો. એન્ડ્રીયા જ તેમની દીકરી જિનેવરાના પિતા છે. જ્યોર્જિયા મેલોનીના અંગત જીવનમાં સૌથી મહત્વનું સ્થાન તેમની દીકરી જિનેવરાનું છે. એક રાજકારણી તરીકે ગમે તેટલી વ્યસ્તતા હોવા છતાં, જ્યોર્જિયા હંમેશાં એક સમર્પિત માતા તરીકે પોતાની ફરજ નિભાવે છે. તેઓ ઘણીવાર પોતાની દીકરીને રાજકીય પ્રવાસો અને રેલીઓમાં પણ સાથે રાખે છે. જ્યોર્જિયા કહે છે કે, "જ્યારે હું મારી દીકરીની આંખોમાં જોઉં છું, ત્યારે મને ઈટાલીના ભવિષ્યને સુરક્ષિત રાખવાની સૌથી મોટી પ્રેરણા મળે છે." એક નેતા હોવાની સાથે-સાથે પોતાની પુત્રી પ્રત્યેનો તેમનો પ્રેમ અને સ્નેહ જોઈને દેશની મહિલાઓ પણ તેમની સાથે ભાવનાત્મક રીતે જોડાઈ ગઈ.

વર્ષ ૨૦૨૨ માં ઈટાલીમાં ચૂંટણી યોજાઈ. જેમાં જ્યોર્જિયાએ રચેલા રાજકીય પક્ષની આકરી કસોટી થવાની હતી. તેમણે આખા દેશમાં પ્રચંડ રેલીઓ કરી. વિરોધીઓએ તેમના પર અનેક આરોપો લગાવ્યા, તેમને રોકવાના પ્રયાસો કર્યા, પરંતુ જે સ્ત્રીએ બાળપણથી જ તોફાનોનો સામનો કર્યો હોય, તેને રાજકીય પવન શું રોકી શકવાનો હતો? ચૂંટણીના પરિણામો આવ્યા અને જ્યોર્જિયાની પાર્ટીએ ઐતિહાસિક જીત મેળવી. જ્યારે તેઓ ઇટાલીના પ્રથમ મહિલા પ્રધાનમંત્રી તરીકે સ્ટેજ પર આવ્યા, ત્યારે તેમની આંખોમાં આંસુ હતા – એ આંસુમાં ગારબાટેલાની ગલીઓનો સંઘર્ષ હતો, પિતાના છોડી જવાની પીડા હતી, માતાનો ત્યાગ હતો અને દેશ માટે કંઈક કરી છૂટવાની તમન્ના હતી.

       ઓક્ટોબર ૨૦૨૩ માં જ્યોર્જિયાના અંગત જીવનમાં મોટો ધરતીકંપ આવ્યો. એન્ડ્રીયા ગિઆમ્બ્રુનોના કેટલાક ઓફ-એર ટીવી વિડીયો લીક થયા, જેમાં તેઓ પોતાની સાથી મહિલા પત્રકારો સાથે અશ્લીલ અને અયોગ્ય વાતો કરતા જોવા મળ્યા હતા. આ ઘટનાથી આખા ઈટાલીમાં હોબાળો મચી ગયો. એક દેશના પ્રધાનમંત્રી હોવાને નાતે આ તેમના આત્મસન્માન પર મોટો પ્રહાર હતો. જ્યોર્જિયાએ સહેજ પણ ડગ્યા વિના, અત્યંત હિંમતપૂર્વક સોશિયલ મીડિયા પર જાહેરાત કરી કે તેઓ એન્ડ્રીયા સાથેના પોતાના ૧૦ વર્ષ જૂના સંબંધોનો તાત્કાલિક અંત લાવે છે. તેમણે ખૂબ જ ગૌરવપૂર્ણ શબ્દોમાં લખ્યું: "જે લોકો મને નબળી પાડવા માંગે છે તેઓ યાદ રાખે કે, પાણીના ટીપાં ગમે તેટલા પ્રયત્નો કરે, તે પથ્થરને તોડી શકતા નથી."

જ્યોર્જિયા મેલોનીના  જીવને ડગલે ને પગલે  અનેક આકરી કસોટીઓ લીધે રાખી પણ આ સઘળી કસોટીઓને તેણીએ ચોટદાર જવાબ આપ્યો છે.  જ્યોર્જિયા મેલોનીએ તેમના જીવનના સંઘર્ષોને આલેખતી આત્મકથા “I Am Giofgia – My Roots, My Principles” પ્રગટ કરી છે. જે પુસ્તકની પ્રસ્તાવના ભારતના વડાપ્રધાન નરેન્દ્ર મોદીએ લખી છે.

   પરિસ્થિતિ ગમે તેટલી વિપરીત હોય, જો તમારામાં અડગ આત્મવિશ્વાસ અને સખત પરિશ્રમ કરવાની તૈયારી હોય તો આખી દુનિયા તમારી સામે ઝૂકે છે. એક અનાથ જેવું બાળપણ જીવનારી છોકરી આજે વિશ્વના સૌથી શક્તિશાળી દેશોમાંના એક ઇટાલીનું નેતૃત્વ કરી રહી છે. તેમની આ સફર વિશ્વની કરોડો મહિલાઓ અને યુવાનો માટે એક જીવંત પ્રેરણા છે કે: "તમારો ભૂતકાળ તમારું ભવિષ્ય નક્કી નથી કરતો, તમારી મહેનત તમારું ભવિષ્ય નક્કી કરે છે."

आज आप  याद  बेहिसाब आये !

          ૧૭ મે એટલે આમારા પ્રેરણાબળ સમાન નીતિનભાઈનો જન્મ દિવસ.   તેમની અણધારી વિદાય લીધાને આજે ચાર મહિના થવા આવ્યા એમ છતાં તેમની લીલીછમ યાદો જરા પણ કરમાઈ નથી. ઉષા કાળે સૂરજ ઉગે છે અને સંધ્યા ટાણે આથમે છે. ઉગવું આથમવું એ નીયતી છે. પરંતુ મધ્યાહને તપતો સૂરજ આમ એકએક આથમી જાય એ કેમ ચાલે ? આમ તો દિવસો-મહિનાઓ પસાર થતાં માણસની યાદો વિસરાઈ જતી હોય છે પરંતુ નીતિનભાઈની યાદો કેમ વીસરાતી નથી. એનું એક કારણ એ છે કે આ માણસ પ્રત્યેક પળ બીજાના સુખ માટે જીવ્યો છે. પોતાના સુખની લેશમાત્ર પરવા કર્યા વિના સમગ્ર જીવન બીજાના ભલા માટે ખર્ચી નાખ્યું.

       એક આદર્શ જીવન કેવું હોય એની દૃષ્ટાંત જોવું હોય તો નીતિનભાઇના જીવનમાં ડોકિયું કરવું પડે. એક આદર્શ પુત્ર, એક આદર્શ પિતા, એક આદર્શ પતિ, એક આદર્શ ભાઈ, એક આદર્શ શિક્ષક અને આદર્શ માનવી!  આજના સમયમાં આવા નિરાળા અને નિખાલસ  વ્યક્તિત્વની કલ્પના કરવી પણ મુશ્કેલ છે.  

         નીતિનભાઈ વિનાની આકરુંદ શાળા સાવ સૂની સૂની લાગે છે. કોઇપણ કામ હાથ પર લઈએ કે કોઈ ફાઈલ ઉઘાડીએ તરત જ નીતિનભાઈ સાંભરી આવે છે.  એક સમયે સાવ વેરવિખેર થયેલી શાળાને પુનર્જીવિત કરવાનું આ માણસે પ્રણ લીધું અને દોઢ દાયકામાં ગુજરાત રાજ્યની શ્રેષ્ઠ શાળાની હરોળમાં મૂકી દીધી તેનું  તમામ શ્રેય નીતિનભાઈને ફાળે જાય છે. પોતે દિવસ-રાત, જાહેર રજા કે વેકેશન જોયા વિના માત્રને માત્ર શાળા અને વિદ્યાર્થીઓના હિત માટે મથ્યા કર્યું. સફળતા મળી પણ એનો યશ હંમેશા બીજાને આપી પોતે હંમેશા નિર્લેપ રહ્યા..

     શાળાના પરિસરમાં નીતિનભાઈનો પ્રવેશ થાય અને તરત આખુ શાળા પરિસર "જય રણછોડ"ના નાદથી ગૂંજી ઊઠે.. એક એક બાળક નીતિનભાઈને વળગી પડી જય રણછોડથી અભિવાદન કરે!

      નીતિનભાઈ શાળા પરિસરમાં પ્રવેશે અને  ચોતરફ એક નજર ફેરવી લે.. તરત એમનો હાથ ફરતો જાય અને અસ્તવ્યસ્ત પડેલી વસ્તુઓ આપોઆપ યોગ્યસ્થાને ગોઠવાતી જાય.. કચરા પેટી, સાવરણા, પાણીના નળ, પાણીની મોટર ચાલું કરવી, કોમ્પ્યુટર, સી. સી. ટીવી, પ્રાર્થના સભાની બેઠક વ્યવસ્થા બધું જ ઓટો મોડ પર ગોઠવાઈ જતું. બીટ શાળા એટલે વહીવટી કામ ખૂબ રહે એમ છતાં વર્ગ અને વિદ્યાર્થીઓની જ  હંમેશા પ્રથમ પ્રાથમિકતા હોય! નીતિનભાઈને શોધવા હોય તો વર્ગમાં બાળકોના ટોળાની વચ્ચે જ મળે. રિશેષ સમયે ચાલીમાં ખૂરશી નાખી બેઠા હોય અને આજુબાજુ બાલવાટિકાનાં વીંટળાઈ વળ્યાં હોય.! બાળકોના ટોળામાં નીતિન ભાઈ ને શોધવા મુશ્કેલ બની જાય !

     શાળામાંથી છેલ્લું વિદ્યાર્થી ઘરે ન પહોંચે ત્યાં સુધી નીતિનભાઈ શાળામાં જ રોકાય! બહાર ગામના વિદ્યાર્થીને કોઈ વાહન ન મળે તો પોતાની બાઇક પર ઘરે પહોંચાડી પછી જ પોતે ઘરે જાય.. રાત્રે પણ જમીને શાળા અને લાઇબ્રેરીની મુલાકાતે ફરજિયાત લેવાની..! દસ વર્ષ પહેલાં ની કોઈ ફાઇલ ન મળે અને નીતિનભાઈ ને પૂછો તો ફાઇલ ના કલર સાથે બતાવી દે કે આ તિજોરીમાં આ જગ્યા એ પડી હશે અને ફાઇલ ત્યાં જ પડી હોય!

    પૂજ્ય મોરારી બાપુના મુખે  વડોદરા કોયલી શાળાના મનસુખ માસ્તરની કથા અનેકવાર સાંભળી છે. નીતિનતિનભાઈ આકરુંદ ગામના મનસુખ માસ્તર હતા. રણછોડ રાય પરની એમની શ્રદ્ધા ગજબની હતી.  વિચલિત કરી દે તેવી વિકરાળ પરિસ્થિતિમાં પણ તેઓ સઘળું રણછોડ રાય પર છોડી સ્થિતપ્રજ્ઞ બની રહેતા. અને મનસુખ માસ્તર ની જેમ નીતિનભાઈની વ્હારે પણ રણછોડ રાય અનેક વખત દોડી આવ્યા છે.  તેમની શ્રદ્ધાની કસોટી કરતો એક પ્રસંગ મને યાદ આવે છે. 

    નીતિનભાઈના એકના એક સુપુત્ર વત્સલના લગ્ન હતા.. મંડપ ડેકોરેશનને આખરી ઓપ અપાઈ રહ્યો હતો. બીજા દિવસે ભવ્ય રિસેપ્શન હતું.. અને આગલી રાત્રે અચાનક વાતાવરણ પલટાયું ભયંકર વાવાઝોઝા સાથે ધોધમાર વરસાદ તૂટી પડ્યો.. થોડી વાર તો એમ જ લાગ્યું કે હવે આવતું કાલનો પ્રસંગ કરવો તો કરવો કઈ રીતે.. સગા સંબંધીઓ, આવેલ સૌ મહેમાન સૌ ચિંતિંત હતા. પણ નીતિનભાઈ એકદમ શાંત હતા. એ માત્ર એટલું બોલ્યા કે "રણછોડ રાય જે કરશે એ સારું જ કરશે. આપણા કરતાં આપણો પ્રસંગ સુધારવાની ચિંતા એણે વધારે છે..." આત્મવિશ્વાસ સાથેના લાગણીભીના  શબ્દો સૌના  હૃદયને ભીંજવી ગયા. જોતજોતામાં વાતવરણ શાંત થઈ ગયું અને પ્રસંગ રંગે ચંગે પૂર્ણ થયો. આવી સ્થિતિમાં ભલભલા સંતપુરુષની શ્રધ્ધા ડગવા માંડે પણ નીતિનભાઈ વાત જ જુદી હતી..આજ સુધી એક પણ પૂનમ ડાકોર દર્શને ન ગયા હોય એવું બન્યું નથી. ડાકોર ગયા હોય અને શાળામાં મોડા પડ્યા હોય એવું આજસુધી બન્યું નથી. ડાકોર જઈને પણ ૧૦ વાગે સ્કૂલ માં હાજર હોય !

        ફરજ નિષ્ઠા તેમના લોહીમાં વણાઈ ગઈ હતી. શાળામાં નિયમિત કેટકટેલા કાર્યક્રમો થતા રહ્યા. કેટકેટલા મહાનુભાવો આવતા રહ્યા. આ એકપણ કાર્યક્રમમાં નીતિનભાઈનો ફોટો તમને ક્યાંય જોવા જ ન મળે. પોતે પડદા પાછળ રહી કાર્યક્રમને સફળ બનાવવા ખૂંપી ગયા હોય. મંચ પર મહાનુભાવ નું સ્વાગત કરવા માટે પણ પોતે જવાનું ટાળે હંમેશા બીજાને જ આગળ કરે.

      શાળા અને જૂથના તમામ શિક્ષકોના પરિવારની તેમને ચિંતા હોય. કોઈપણ શિક્ષકના ઘરે કોઇપણ શુભ અશુભ પ્રસંગ બન્યો હોય નીતિનભાઈ સોથી પહેલાં ત્યાં ખડેપગે હાજર હોય. તાલુકામાં પણ જ્યારે શિક્ષણ આલમમાં કોઈ કોયડો ગૂંચવાય ત્યારે તેનો હલ નીતિનભાઈ પાસે અચૂક હોય. સંઘ હોય કે મંડળી પોતે તમામ હોદ્દાઓથી દૂર રહે પણ એમની તમામ ગૂંચવણો નીતિન ભાઈ ઉકેલી આપે.

    નીતિનભાઈની વિદાયથી આકરુંદ શાળાનો જાણે મુખ્ય આધારસ્તંભ જ ભાગી પડ્યો !  શિક્ષકો જ નહીં વિદ્યાર્થીઓ ની આંખોમાંથી આંસુ સુકાતાં નથી. તેમની ખોટ માત્ર આકરુંદ શાળાને જ નહીં પરંતુ સમગ્ર શિક્ષણ જગતને ચિરકાળ સુધી સાલતી રહેશે.

    નીતિનભાઈ જેવા ભેરુનો ભેટો હવે કયા ભવે થાશે એ તો રણછોડ રાય જ જાણે ! આજે તેમની જન્મ તિથીએ ભાવપૂર્ણ શ્રદ્ધાંજલિ !

    Then it was Debra O'Farrell who took the stage.  

    Debra O'Farrell began her speech by expressing her joy and connection with the audience, saying, “It feels so good to see people who share the same skin color as mine. It makes me feel at home.”  

    Debra then shared her inspiring life story. She revealed that she came from a background of extreme poverty, but she never allowed her circumstances to define or limit her. “I never let the feeling of poverty handicap me, and I never let myself feel defeated,” she said. Debra emphasized the importance of self-belief, saying, “I never lost faith in myself, no matter how difficult life became.”  

    She spoke about opportunities, highlighting that life presents them to everyone at some point. “Opportunities come to all of us,” she explained, “but the key is to recognize them and seize them when they appear.” She also took a moment to admire and praise Mr. Shah for his efforts in providing opportunities to the poor in his country based on their skills.

    Debra urged the audience to make the most of their abilities, especially to uplift their children and create a better future for them. “It’s important to identify your unique skills,” she said. “Learn and refine different skills, and then decide which ones are most suitable for you and your children’s lives. Once you do, focus on becoming the best at what you do.”  

    She inspired the audience by asserting that with determination and effort, anyone could achieve greatness. “When you try your best, you will eventually become the best in your chosen field. A woman can even become a successful industrialist if she decides to pursue that path,” she declared with conviction.

    After Jack's inspiring speech, it was the turn of Kip Steinberg, a distinguished lawyer from the United States, to address the conference. He began by extending a warm and heartfelt greeting to the audience, saying, “Namaste. I thank you all for being here today. I see God in each one of you, and it brings me immense joy to be here with my wife by my side.” His words immediately created a sense of connection with the audience, emphasizing the shared humanity and divine presence in every individual.

Kip then acknowledged the previous speaker, Jack, with admiration, stating, “Jack has spoken truthfully and shared some very valuable insights. However, I would like to add one more thought to what he said.” Kip went on to emphasize that while education is undeniably important, there is another essential quality that everyone must strive for: wisdom. He elaborated, “Wisdom is gained through the experiences that life teaches us. It is not something that can be learned purely through books or formal education. Wisdom is the practical knowledge that comes from living, making mistakes, and growing stronger.” He underscored that wisdom is what truly propels a person forward in life, helping them navigate challenges and make decisions that align with their higher purpose.

        Kip urged the audience to focus not only on acquiring education for themselves but also on passing that knowledge and wisdom on to the next generation. “If you have not had the opportunity to pursue education for yourself, it is crucial that you make it your mission to ensure your children are educated,” he said. “Help them grow and develop into well-rounded individuals who understand the importance of both learning and wisdom. Educate your generation with a clear, defined purpose in mind, and help them understand that education is not just about books, but about shaping their future and their ability to contribute meaningfully to society.”

The indelible tale of his mother's life:

    Shifting gears, Kip went on to reflect on the profound role that mothers play in shaping their children's lives and dreams. “A mother can teach you the importance of having a goal in life,” he said with deep respect, before sharing a touching and powerful story about his own mother, who he regarded as his greatest role model. He recounted how his mother had always aspired to become an actress, but life’s circumstances led her to prioritize other responsibilities. “She was not only a dreamer but also a talented writer who had received numerous accolades for her work. However, after marrying and raising children, she set aside her personal dreams to focus on her family. Her life took a different path, but she never let go of her original aspirations,” Kip shared, his voice filled with admiration for her unwavering spirit.

    As time passed and her children grew older, Kip’s mother decided that it was time to reignite the dreams she had put on hold. At the age of 50, she returned to college to finish her education, something she had put aside many years ago. Not only did she complete her graduation, but she also pursued a career in journalism and ultimately made her way to Hollywood, where she realized her dream of becoming an actress. Prakash Shah, son of the late K.K. Shah- former Governor of Tamil Nadu and Union Cabinet Minister, has resided in the United States for decades. Yet his love for his motherland remains unparalleled. Maintaining his Indian citizenship, he is proud to be an Indian. Devoting himself to serving his country, he keeps one foot in America and the other firmly planted on Indian soil. He is currently on a visit to India, accompanied by distinguished guests from the United States.

In the presence of these American guests, a grand women's conference was organized by the 'K. K. Shah Charitable Trust' at Vatrak Ashram on India's 76th Republic Day, January 26, 2025. Thousands of women from self-help groups, inspired by Prakash Shah's vision, flocked to the event. The foreign dignitaries were given a warm welcome in accordance with Indian tradition, with the sounds of shehnai and the beats of drums filling the air. The guests felt honored as they distributed gifts and food packets to the women present. Young girls from Gabat village school sang a beautiful welcome song, and the guests were then honored with garlands of yarn.

A Tireless Champion of India: Prakash Shah:

Prakash Shah's address to the assembled women focused on themes of patriotism, empowerment, and the importance of ethical conduct. Let's break down his key messages:

 * "I love India dearly. I want economic independence for India." This expresses his deep affection for his homeland and his desire for its progress. He's not just talking about political independence, but also economic self-sufficiency, where India is not reliant on other nations.

 * "If women resolve, this can be achieved." This highlights his belief in the power of women. He sees them as a crucial force for economic change, suggesting that their determination and active participation are essential for India's economic independence. He's empowering them and placing responsibility in their hands.

 * "I see richness in poverty." This is a powerful statement. It suggests that even amidst material lack, there is a wealth of other values, perhaps referring to community, resilience, or spiritual strength. He's implying that true richness isn't just about money.

 * "If we work with honesty, success in life is certain. Without honesty in life, wealth will not last long." Here, he emphasizes the critical role of integrity. He links honesty directly to success and suggests that wealth acquired or maintained through dishonest means is ultimately unsustainable. This speaks to a moral foundation for both personal and national progress.

 * "After 8.4 million life forms, we have attained human birth, so we should work towards our liberation." This refers to the Hindu belief in reincarnation. The idea is that human birth is a rare and precious opportunity for spiritual growth and liberation (moksha). He's urging the women to use this opportunity wisely and strive for self-improvement and release from the cycle of birth and death.

 * "God does nothing. We receive the fruits of our actions." This reinforces the concept of karma – the principle that our actions have consequences. He's stressing personal responsibility, saying that we are the architects of our own destinies. This ties back to the idea of honest work and striving for liberation; these are things we must actively do, not passively wait for divine intervention.

In summary, Prakash Shah's speech was a call to action. He inspired the women to be agents of change in their own lives and for their country, emphasizing the importance of honesty, hard work, and the unique opportunity they have as human beings to strive for a better future, both materially and spiritually.

યુદ્ધભૂમિ પર સારવારના અભાવે તરફડી રહેલા ઘાયલ  સૈનિકો જોઈ હેનરી ડ્યુનાન્ટનું હૈયું હચમચી ઊઠ્યું અને....

માનવસેવાને સમર્પિત રેડક્રોસ સોસાયટીના ઈતિહાસની  એક અદભૂત ગાથા.

૮ મે ના રોજ વિશ્વભરમાં  આંતરરાષ્ટ્રીય  રેડક્રોસ દિનની ઉજવણી કરવામાં આવી. માનવ સેવાને સમર્પિત વિશ્વવ્યાપી રેડક્રોસની સ્થાપનાનો ઈતિહાસ રોચક છે. રેડ ક્રોસની સ્થાપના પાછળ એક ખૂબ જ પ્રેરણાદાયી કથા છે જે બહુ ઓછા લોકો જાણે છે.

તારીખ ૨૪ જૂન, ૧૮૫૯.ની આ વાત છે.! સોલ્ફેરીનોનું યુદ્ધ જામી ચુક્યું હતું.  એક તરફ ફ્રાન્સ (નેપોલિયન ત્રીજાના નેતૃત્વમાં) અને ઈટાલીનું ગઠબંધન હતું, જ્યારે બીજી તરફ ઓસ્ટ્રિયન સામ્રાજ્ય હતું. આ યુદ્ધ ૧૫ કલાક સુધી ચાલ્યું હતું, જેમાં લગભગ ૩ લાખ સૈનિકો સામસામે લડ્યા હતા.

એ સમયે સ્વિસ બિઝનેસમેન હેનરી ડ્યુનાન્ટ પોતાના કામ માટે નેપોલિયન ત્રીજાને મળવા જઈ રહ્યા હતા. જ્યારે તેઓ સોલ્ફેરીનો પહોંચ્યા, ત્યારે તેમણે રણમેદાનની ભયાનકતા જોઈ. હજારો સૈનિકો પાણી અને સારવાર માટે બૂમો પાડી રહ્યા હતા.યુદ્ધમાં હજારો સૈનિકો મોતને ભેટ્યા હતા તો બીજા હજારો ઘાયલ  સૈનિકો  સારવારના અભાવે તરફડી રહ્યા હતા. તે સમયે સૈન્ય પાસે પૂરતી મેડિકલ સુવિધા નહોતી, જેના કારણે ઘાયલ સૈનિકો તડપી-તડપીને મરી રહ્યા હતા.આ ઘટનાએ તેમને હચમચાવી દીધા અને તેમણે પોતાનું કામ પડતું મૂકીને સ્થાનિક લોકોની મદદથી ઘાયલોની સેવા કરી.

ડ્યુનાન્ટે પોતાનો બિઝનેસ ભૂલીને ત્યાંના સ્થાનિક લોકો (ખાસ કરીને મહિલાઓ) ને એકઠા કર્યા. તેમણે એક ચર્ચ (Chiesa Maggiore) ને હંગામી હોસ્પિટલમાં ફેરવી નાખ્યું. તેમણે દુશ્મન કે મિત્ર જોયા વગર દરેક ઘાયલ સૈનિકની સેવા કરી. જ્યારે લોકોએ પૂછ્યું કે તમે દુશ્મનોને કેમ બચાવો છો? ત્યારે ડ્યુનાન્ટે સૂત્ર આપ્યું: "Tutti Fratelli" (તેઓ બધા આપણા ભાઈઓ છે).

ઘરે પાછા ફર્યા પછી ડ્યુનાન્ટ તે દ્રશ્યો ભૂલી શક્યા નહીં અને તેમણે 'A Memory of Solferino' પુસ્તક લખ્યું. અને એક એવી સંસ્થાનો વિચાર રજૂ કર્યો જે યુદ્ધમાં ઘાયલોની નિઃસ્વાર્થ સેવા કરે. સોલ્ફેરીનોના યુદ્ધ પછી, હેનરી ડ્યુનાન્ટના વિચારોએ વિશ્વના દેશોને વિચારતા કરી દીધા. તેના પરિણામે જિનીવા કન્વેન્શન (Geneva Conventions) અસ્તિત્વમાં આવ્યું, જે આજે યુદ્ધના કાયદા તરીકે ઓળખાય છે. અને  રેડ ક્રોસનો પાયો નાખ્યો: તેમણે દુનિયા સામે બે મુખ્ય પ્રસ્તાવ મૂક્યા: ૧.શાંતિના સમયમાં જ દરેક દેશમાં સ્વૈચ્છિક રાહત મંડળો બનાવવામાં આવે. ૨. યુદ્ધમાં ઘાયલોની સેવા કરનારાઓને 'તટસ્થ' ગણીને તેમના પર હુમલો ન થાય તેવો આંતરરાષ્ટ્રીય કરાર થાય. આ વિચારને અમલમાં મૂકવા માટે ૧૮૬૩માં જિનીવા (સ્વિટ્ઝર્લેન્ડ) ખાતે 'કમિટી ઓફ ફાઈવ'ની રચના થઈ, જે પાછળથી ઇન્ટરનેશનલ કમિટી ઓફ ધ રેડ ક્રોસ (ICRC) તરીકે ઓળખાઈ. આમ, સોલ્ફેરીનોનું લોહિયાળ યુદ્ધ એ આધુનિક માનવતાવાદી કાયદા અને રેડ ક્રોસ સંસ્થાના જન્મનું મુખ્ય કારણ બન્યું.

રેડક્રોસનું ચિન્હ સ્વિટ્ઝર્લેન્ડના ધ્વજ (લાલ ધ્વજ પર સફેદ ક્રોસ) ના રંગોને ઉલટાવીને બનાવવામાં આવ્યું છે. આ પ્રતીકનો હેતુ ધાર્મિક નથી, પરંતુ તે એક તટસ્થ ઓળખ છે, જેથી યુદ્ધમાં દુશ્મન દેશના સૈનિકો પણ આ ચિન્હ જોઈને ફાયરિંગ ન કરે અને રાહત કાર્ય ચાલુ રહી શકે. મુસ્લિમ દેશોમાં રેડ ક્રોસના સ્થાને રેડ ક્રેસન્ટ (લાલ અર્ધચંદ્રાકાર) પ્રતીકનો ઉપયોગ થાય છે.

હેનરી ડ્યુનાન્ટનો જન્મ ૮ મે, ૧૮૨૮ ના રોજ જિનીવા, સ્વિટ્ઝર્લેન્ડમાં થયો હતો. ડ્યુનાન્ટે  પોતાનું આખું જીવન અને સંપત્તિ માનવતાના કામમાં લગાવી દીધી હતી. એક સમયે તેઓ ખૂબ જ ગરીબ થઈ ગયા હતા અને જિનીવા છોડીને એક નાનકડા ગામમાં રહેવા જતા રહ્યા હતા. અંતે જ્યારે તેમને નોબેલ પુરસ્કાર મળ્યો, ત્યારે તેમણે તે રકમ પણ ચેરિટીમાં આપી દીધી હતી. તેમને "માનવતાના પિતા" તરીકે પણ ઓળખવામાં આવે છે. ૩૦ ઓક્ટોબર, ૧૯૧૦ ના રોજ હેડન, સ્વિટ્ઝર્લેન્ડમાં થયું.

રેડક્રોસ એટલે માત્ર એક લાલ રંગનું નિશાન નહીં, પણ વિશ્વભરમાં કરોડો લોકો માટે આશાનું કિરણ છે. યુદ્ધ હોય, કુદરતી હોનારત હોય કે મહામારી, જ્યાં માનવતા મુશ્કેલીમાં હોય ત્યાં રેડક્રોસ હાજર હોય છે.  આજે ૧૯૦થી વધુ દેશોમાં રેડ ક્રોસ અને રેડ ક્રેસન્ટ સોસાયટીઓ કાર્યરત છે. રેડક્રોસને અત્યાર સુધીમાં ૩ વાર (૧૯૧૭, ૧૯૪૪, ૧૯૬૩) નોબેલ શાંતિ પુરસ્કાર મળ્યો છે.

પ્રથમ વિશ્વયુદ્ધ (૧૯૧૪-૧૯૧૮) દરમિયાન, ભારતમાં ઘાયલ સૈનિકોની સેવા અને રાહત કાર્યો માટે 'સેન્ટ જોન એમ્બ્યુલન્સ એસોસિએશન' અને 'રેડક્રોસ' ની એક સંયુક્ત સમિતિ કાર્યરત હતી. યુદ્ધના અંત પછી, એક કાયમી સંસ્થાની જરૂરિયાત અનુભવાઈ જે શાંતિના સમયમાં પણ આપત્તિ વ્યવસ્થાપન અને આરોગ્ય સેવાઓ પૂરી પાડી શકે. ભારતમાં રેડક્રોસની સ્થાપના માટે બ્રિટિશ ભારતની તે સમયની ધારાસભામાં એક ખરડો પસાર કરવામાં આવ્યો હતો. ૩ માર્ચ, ૧૯૨૦ ના રોજ 'ઈન્ડિયન રેડક્રોસ સોસાયટી એક્ટ' (1920 ના એક્ટ XV) પસાર થયો.આ કાયદા હેઠળ ૨૦ માર્ચ, ૧૯૨૦ ના રોજ 'ઈન્ડિયન રેડક્રોસ સોસાયટી' (IRCS) ની વિધિવત સ્થાપના કરવામાં આવી. સર સી.એચ. સેટલવાડ ભારતીય રેડક્રોસ સોસાયટીના પ્રથમ ભારતીય અધ્યક્ષ બન્યા હતા.આજે ભારતમાં ૧,૧૦૦ થી વધુ શાખાઓનું વિશાળ નેટવર્ક છે, જે ગામડાઓ અને જિલ્લા કક્ષા સુધી વિસ્તરેલું છે. ભારતના રાષ્ટ્રપતિ આ સંસ્થાના પ્રેસિડેન્ટ હોય છે અને કેન્દ્રીય આરોગ્ય મંત્રી તેના ચેરમેન હોય છે.

 ગુજરાતમાં રેડ ક્રોસની ૧૯૬૦ માં તેની સ્થાપના થઈ હતી. ૧૯૬૦ સુધી રેડ ક્રોસ સંગઠન બરોડા, રાજકોટ, જૂનાગઢ, કપડવંજ, દેવગઢ-બારિયા, અમદાવાદ વગેરે જેવા અનેક ભૂતપૂર્વ રજવાડા હેઠળ કાર્યરત હતું. ૧૯૬૦માં ભૂતપૂર્વ બોમ્બે રાજ્યનું ગુજરાત અને મહારાષ્ટ્ર એમ બે રાજ્યોમાં વિભાજન થવાના પરિણામે, ભારતીય રેડ ક્રોસ સોસાયટીની ગુજરાત રાજ્ય શાખાની ઔપચારિક રચના કરવામાં આવી.

ભારતીય રેડક્રોસની ગુજરાત શાખા પણ અત્યંત સક્રિય છે. ખાસ કરીને ૨૦૦૧ના કચ્છના ધરતીકંપ સમયે અને તાજેતરમાં કોરોના મહામારી દરમિયાન રેડક્રોસના સ્વયંસેવકોએ પાયાની કામગીરી કરી હતી. હાલ અજયભાઈ એચ. પટેલ  ગુજરાત રેડ ક્રોસ સોસાયટીના અધ્યક્ષ છે. તેમના નેતૃત્ત્વમાં ગુજરાત શાખા ઉત્તમ કાર્ય કરી રહી છે.  બ્લડ ડોનેશન કેમ્પ અને થેલેસેમિયા પીડિત બાળકોની સેવામાં ગુજરાત રેડક્રોસ મોખરે છે.

અરવલ્લી જીલ્લાના મુખ્ય મથક મોડાસા ખાતે પણ વર્ષ ૨૦૧૫ માં રેડ ક્રોસ સોસાયટીની શાખા કાર્યરત કરવામાં આવી. છેલ્લા એક દાયકામાં અરવલ્લીના અંતરિયાળ વિસ્તારમાં રેડ ક્રોસે સીમાચિહ્ન રૂપ કામગરી કરી બતાવી છે. તાજેતરમાં જ મોડાસા રેડક્રોસ સોસાયટીની મુખ્ય ધુરા વનીતાબેન પટેલે સંભાળી છે. વનીતાબેનનો સમગ્ર પરિવાર સમાજસેવા સાથે દાયકાઓથી જોડાયેલો છે. તેમના નેતૃત્ત્વમાં મોડાસા રેડક્રોસ સોસાયટી દ્વારા થતાં માનવસેવા કાર્યોને નવી દિશા અને નવો વેગ મળ્યો છે.  

રેડ ક્રોસ સોસાયટી મોડાસા દ્વારા અનેક સવલતો પૂરી પાડવામાં આવે છે જેવી કે રાહત દરે પેથોલોજી લેબોરેટરી,ડેન્ટલ વિભાગ,સુપર ઓ.પી.ડી. વિભાગ,ફસ્ટ એઇડ તાલીમ,હોમ કેર આસીસ્ટન કોર્સ,હેલ્થ કેર એટેન્ડન્સ,મેડીકલ સર્જીકલ સાધનો,બ્લડ કલેશન વાન,પર્યાવરણ જાગૃતિ અભિયાન,આરોગ્ય લક્ષી કેમ્પ,જન્મથી સાંભળી ન શકતા બાળકો માટે ડિવાઈઝ, ડીઝાસ્ટર મેનેજમેન્ટ તાલીમ,મોબાઈલ મેડીકલ વાન.અને આ સિવાય પણ બીજી અનેક સેવાઓથી રેડક્રોસ સોસાયટી ધમધમે છે.

આગામી સમયમાં મોડાસામાં બ્લડ બેંક અને પેથોલોજી સેન્ટર સ્થાપવા માટે ચેરમેન વાનીતાબેને કમર કસી છે. જેના માટે સરકાર શ્રી તરફથી જમીન પણ ફાળવવા આવી છે. બ્લડબેંક અને પેથોલોજી સેન્ટરનું મોડાસા રેડક્રોસ સોસાયટીનું સ્વપ્ન નજીકના ભવિષ્યમાં જરૂર સાકાર થશે.

૧૯૨૦માં એક નાનકડા કાયદાથી શરૂ થયેલી આ સંસ્થા આજે ભારતભરમાં ૧૧૦૦ થી વધુ શાખાઓ ધરાવે છે. 'સેવા પરમો ધર્મ' ના સૂત્રને સાર્થક કરતી ઈન્ડિયન રેડક્રોસ સોસાયટી ભારતના આરોગ્ય માળખાનો એક મજબૂત સ્તંભ છે.
